Happy 5k'er in her Color Run swag

Happy 5k’er in her Color Run swag

The title of this blog entry was just one of the many creative team names,I came across on the Color Run’s public Facebook page. Who or What is the Color Run you might ask. Well its one of many traveling 5k(3.2 mile) races that takes place across the country and abroad. From coast to coast since its inception in 2012 the Color Run has grown in popularity.

The Color Run hit the DMV (DC, MD AND VA) May 11 and May 18. I had the opportunity to photograph the Baltimore Color Run and participate in the DC event. Both events sold out in record-breaking time! Maryland with 25,000 racers registered and two race time 9am and 2 pm and DC with 5,000 racers start time 9 am.

The start line aka the holding pen

The idea; A theme 5K run/walk or crawl has spread like a wildfire. I have seen websites for The Electric Run (I’m definitely doing that run), Vampire,Drenched (Registered for that run too),Zombie and Foam to name a few. I think its awesome! if you read my last post you will see a recurring theme. That theme is healthy, active lifestyle. See I’m not just a (what I wore today, while I sit and look oblivious to the camera type of blog) No shade to those who do. I will continue to promote health and fitness as well a fashion.

Please enjoy the photos below the first set are from the Baltimore Color Run. The race took place May 11,2013 at Camden Yards baseball stadium. GO O’s!!! (Yes I rep my city, always and forever)The quiet before the Yellow Storm

The Aftermath… still happy!

Now for the DC 5K Myself along with a few friends hit I-95  bright and early Sunday May 18 for the Colorful festivities. The event took place at The National Harbor. 5,000 health and fitness fanatic braved the temperamental weather. There was Fog, rain and a brisk breeze blowing off the Potomac river. A little rain never stopped our party.

COLOR PARTY!

COLOR PARTY!

What would this event be without a celebration at the end. The Color toss that is done at the end of the race happens every 10 minute for an hour. I think we took part in at least 3 of the tosses. There was a dance contest, marriage proposal and plenty of music and food to keep the runner happy.

This event was so much fun, messy but nothing a little soap and water can’t cure. This was the first and certainly not the last run I will participate in.

SO… YOU,YEAH YOU! what are you waiting for GET UP, GO OUT and BE ACTIVE. It might save your life!

fitness

I don’t want to beat a dead horse (nice way to start a blog entry, I know) but fitness needs to be a part of your daily routine. We have 24 hours in a day most of us DON’T sleep the recommended 8 hours and even if we did there are still 16 hours left. In that time you can find 20,40 or 60 minutes. Trust me you will still have plenty of time to do those other important things that need to be done.

Me personally, I  have a very high energy stressful job. I am a manager of 7 very demanding individual who require my time and attention sometimes simultaneously.  For me to prepare for my long 10 1/2 hour work day I have to do a 30 minute yoga or Pilates workout, every morning.

I think having that personal time for yourself especially when you’re a parent. Im a mother of two, it’s vital. In your personal time do something that is going to recharge your battery.

I will say I have been fortunate with a genetic make up which helps me to burn calories, nice way of saying I don’t gain weight fast. Before you roll ya eyes, Hear me out(as if you could actual hear me but y’all know what im saying). When I don’t exercise my body aches! I become sluggish, tired and lack motivation. When I do, I have clarity in thought, energy and motivation.

fitness2

Start off light, they key is to get up and start. For example 20 minutes, set a timer if you need to but for 20 minutes MOVE! walk, run ,jog if you can’t do that stand in place and twist, arm raises and reach for your toes. The key is to warm your muscles up, get that blood flowing so that it can push toxins out of your body. There is something that happens to us mentally when we exercise, I could explain it but I want you to experience it. You will notice your thoughts and outlook on life will change.

Just remember this: excercise to help keep your body healthy, DO NOT exercise to lose weight. Weight loss is a result of, but the real reason is to help restore and rebuild our bodies.

The homie Dhark sent me a text message earlier in the week asking if I would like to go to a “TATTOO CONVENTION” my photog inspiration bell started ringing in my head. I told him heck yeah let’s do this. So I laced up my custom all-stars, threw on my blazer and rolled out. We caught the train and walked about a mile to the Baltimore convention center. I opted for sneakers that day, i wanted to be fashionable but also functional. Saturday was not a 5 inches and above type of day, I think we may have walked about 4 miles that day.

I swear I love my city I know that’s cliché but… hey I don’t care I really do! I snapped a few pix from my travels to the Inner Harbor.

Ok so about that Tattoo Convention.  I don’t have a tattoo and probably will never get one, but I enjoy seeing them on other people. The moment I walked into the convention, the sounds of tattoo needles buzzing and vibrating took over. Call me naive but I didn’t think I was walking into a gigantic tattoo party. (Shrugs,…. sorry!) to my left and right folks were being “tat tat tatted up” like it was nothing but a quick run to Starbucks for a coffee and muffin.

I took a trip to the Howard Rawlings Conservatory. The little gem is located inside of Druid Hill Park. One of the oldest parks in my city (Baltimore). The history behind the park is just as interesting as the Conservatory. So,me and my photog DHark headed to the park (see that! I have rhyming skills, im about to be a rap artist) to take a few shots in and outside of the conservatories various gardens. The shots below your truly took, I must say for a novice without any training whatsoever I didn’t do to bad. Enjoy!

Strange title right? Well it will all be explained.

A few weeks ago Dhark and I were invited to a 80′s themed party hosted by Yelp Baltimore. I thought hey excellent, a local meet and greet for blog and “reviews” enthusiast. I am all geared up to go, in full 80′s fashion. Being a child of the 80′s I remember all the fab styles my mom, aunts and older cousins would wear. So I was super “geeked” to party with the rest of my 80′s babies. Well I drive all the way down there and what do I NOT see…. my purse! No wallet, money or most important my I.D.. I’m so upset my heart was set on blogging about this event. Long sigh, without proper I.D. I wasnt getting in and I can understand that, they had “grown folks” drinks in there.  Luckily we were parked right next to the B&O railroad Museum.

We were able to turn the identity mishap into a photo shoot opportunity. So I hope you enjoy the pictures, we had fun shooting.

Hi everyone! its good to be back with another entry, a lot has happened these past two-week. My baby sister LOVE HER celebrated turning 26,(party photos to come). I have been ripping and running being the rock star mom that I am it can be hard to find time to blog.

Dhark and I recently experimented with night photography. We headed to Mt.Washington Mill and shot in the rustic business center. The place is so fabulous, during the day you can grab a bite at some of the great shop as well as learn to make pottery. Who knew Starbuck and pottery making could one day live in harmony. I found this lovely cropped bomber on Asos Marketplace. It so unique and very comfortable. The leather and the lambs wool is so soft and in excellent condition. It is one of my favorite recent purchases.*Giving my best interpretation of Fierceness LOL*

I am in love with piperlime and asos online store. I’m pretty sure in the majority of my looks there will be a piece from either of the two if not both stores. I found this great cropped leather and lambs wool bomber jacket recently from Asos Marketplace. I love hard to find pieces and I recently started buying vintage, One mans old is definitely another’s new!.

Lets talk about the SHEWWWS!!! I am so in love with these Maison Martin Margiela line 22 S/S’11 pumps. I found them shopping on yoox.com, the classic pump with an unsuspecting twist. These shoes cant decide if it wants to be a sandal or a pump, and I LOVE IT! They are definitely a conversation piece. If you love them as much as I do you can find the link below to purchase. I will warn you this shoe is cut small so order a whole size up.

If you live in the DMV (D.C.,MARYLAND,VIRGINIA) area please come out to the 100th anniversary of the cherry blossom festival in D.C., it start today March 20. It a month-long event that ends April 27, there something everyone can enjoy. I will be there, Dhark and I wouldnt miss the photo ops for anything.

I hope you have a great week. Peace & blessing lovely people

So here is the second installment of my shoot with Mr. Roy Cox. With this shoot I wanted to switch my style up. I went for a playful look, that had a southern good girl appeal. I chose a high waist jeans with a paid Bow tie blouse, suspenders and a rugged sole platform boot.
These high waist jeans are one of my favorite pair.
High waist jeans will give you a long and lean length and when your curvy it tends to draw the eyes up. I found them a few years ago in a local shop here in Maryland called South Moon Under. Great store I’m never disappointed shopping there. I find local designer to high end all in one location.
My top I actually saw on one of my style icons Ms. Wendy Nguyen ofWendys look book I fell in love with the color combinations. I searched high and low and finally found a similar top by the same designer Mike & Chris on “Ebay” ! The suspenders have dual purpose. 1.They’re too cute 2.They help with gapping. My high waist jeans tends to gap at the waist so instead of a belt the suspenders are a nice alternative.

Thank you for letting me share my style with you

ImageIn January I had the privilege of working with a phenomenal photographer. His name is Roy Cox, based in Baltimore Maryland. He was incredibly pleasant, when at times photographers can be a bit harsh or brash (not saying I HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED SUCH BEHAVIORS. The photogs I have worked with this does not apply to YOU) when they have worked with celebrities and top industry professional. Mr. Cox is such a professional and student of his craft, but he treats you just like family which makes the process so much easier. Hey sometimes it can be hard to get in front of a camera with bright lights and a gang of people around you and next thing you know your told. ” OK GO”!… Go where? Do what? pose how?  can race thru your mind all the while you must look “natural”. I digress, anyway my rant is over. I hope you enjoy the images I had a blast posing for.

A special thank you goes out to Ms. Lana Rae of KIS model and Talent agency www.kisagency.com/  and her team for putting together the photo shoot.
